Here's what's happened, happening, and going to happen: Date of Announcement: So much has happened in the band since I last wrote any news three years ago...whew! Here is a summary:
Date of Announcement: Soda Ash has been selected as one of 23 semifinalists to play AIDSROCKOHIO. We will be playing Saturday, August 30 in Columbus, OH. Here is the info: Twenty-six bands will be chosen to perform in the semi-finals held each Saturday starting August 16th through September 6th in Columbus, OH. Four semi-finalists will advance to the finals held on September 13th at The Tall Trees Music Festival in Columbus, OH. The Grand Prize winner will win a recording contract and a chance to open at the Schottenstein Arena on Sunday, Sept. 14th for a major national act (TBA). All 26 finalists will be featured on a compilation disc, proceeds of which will benefit the AIDS ROCK foundation. Date of Announcement: Due to the efforts of Soda Ash guitarist Brandon York, Martin Atkins: Invisible Records guru, former drummer for Ministry, Public Image Ltd, and Killing Joke, and founder of several other industrial projects, including Pigface, Murder Inc, and Damage Manual; will be doing a re-mix of a Soda Ash song. More news coming up... Date of Announcement: Grant Huffman has joined Soda Ash as sixth member! Grant is playing keys. Date of Announcement: Check out shinaki.com for computer gaming info. Date of Announcement: We are still with the program! We have been very busy mixing our 3rd CD, "Tech Noir" but will soon be doing some shows again! Tech Noir will be out this summer.... Date of Announcement: Band pounder, EZ, broke her leg while walkin' the critters. Soda Ash had to cancel a couple of shows. She has worked on playing with the cast and will give it a go on April 03 at Eastside Live! Date of Announcement: 01/23/02 Kansas City's DJ KaoS informed us, at the David J show, that our song "Box of Gods" is featured on the Hot Topic website. Unbeknownst to us, our song was chosen as one of the 10 songs on their Goth/Industrial channel. Amazing! Date of Announcement: 07/05/01 Soda Ash is this week's featured artist on the mp3 site Zebox.com! Check it out. Date of Announcement: 04/19/01 Soda Ash plays their 1st hometown show in a year! Next Tuesday, 04/24/01 at Shattered in Columbia, MO, Soda Ash joins Subscribe for the 3rd CD release show for Directory Assistance. Date of Announcement: 04/09/01 KCOU compilation of 18 Columbia, MO bands, Directory Assistance released. This is the first KCOU-produced CD (with help from Columbia's own Red Boots Recording Studio and AVG, Audio-Video Graphics in Independence, MO. Directory Assistance will be available for only $6... that's just $.33 per song! (Songs not labeled for individual sale!) Date of Announcement: 04/02/01 In its first week in format, "Box of Gods" was #19 on the KCOU charts (KCOU charts 03/12/01), then it was #3 (KCOU charts 03/19/01), and now, it is ***TA, DA, DA, DUT, DUM, DAAAAHHHHH....::drumroll::... Soda Ash's Box of Gods is now #1!! ( (KCOU charts 04/02/01) The countdown is Monday night after 7pm. Date of Announcement: 03/16/01 After more than 2 years, we have added some new mp3 songs to our Soda Ash mp3 page. Check out the pre-mastering final mix of "Stargazer" to be released soon on a KCOU compilation CD and a 4 minute 'radio mix' of the title track from the new "Box of Gods" CD. Streaming media (i.e., click and play instead of download) of these songs and lo-fi versions (i.e., smaller files) can be found at our Soda Ash mp3.com site. Date of Announcement: 03/12/01 Our new CD "Box of Gods" is being distributed by Blue Sky Distribution and should be available at Streetside Records. Date of Announcement: 03/05/01 Second Soda Ash CD "Box of Gods" is now officially in format at College Station KCOU. It will be the feature album on Wednesday, March 7 at 10:00 pm. This means it'll be played in it's entirety. Listen in, and call up and request your favorite Soda Ash track over the next couple months at 882-8262. Date of Announcement: January, 2001 Soda Ash bassist Tina Young will be moving on to work on her own musical projects. New bassist, Tony, will join Soda Ash next month. Date of Announcement: December, 2000 We have finally finished our new CD, "Box of Gods." It is being mastered by Phil Easter and should be out by the end of this month. Phil Easter, who did the artwork for "Sci-Fi Lullaby," is also doing the "Box of Gods" art. Look for a CD release show soon! We originally planned to record a follow-up to our debut release, "Sci-Fi Lullaby", then we added on an EP. The EP has now grown into another full-length, so it looks like we will have two complete albums recorded by the end of summer. Hopefully you will see the first one some time in the Fall. The Apox folks checked out the awesome SCSI CD release show the last time they were through the heartland. We will be playing Saturday, January 29, 2000 at the Firehouse in St. Louis. Bass player Bryant Waner has left Soda Ash, and after several auditions, we welcome new bassist Tina Young. Meanwhile, lead singer Erin Knowles tied the knot last month with gorgeous lead singer Larry Krapf of Laminar Flow, which explains the gooey love songs at our live shows of late! ;) Date of Announcement: Jul 22, 1999 Soda Ash welcomes monster Bassist: Bryant Waner! John Stebbins is moving to Chicago, and he will be sorely missed. The band is headed into Icon Studios, St. Louis to work on a new CD. Starbuck, originally scheduled for Apr 2, has been resceduled. It will be Apr 24. We will also be playing with our friends Laminar Flow and Auto Sleeper on Apr 30. Date of Announcement: Mar 9 1999 Shannon Russell conducted phone interviews with each of us, then wrote a great Soda Ash article, published in the Maneater today. Date of Announcement: Mar 1 1999 Columbia's free (i.e., you don't have to pay to get a copy) entertainment newspaper, Loud Neighbor, reviewed "Sci-Fi Lullaby" in this month's issue. The tone was negative, but most comments were interpreted as positive by us! We want to sound abrasive, machine-like and free-form! Hey, any exposure is good exposure, right? Date of Announcement: Feb 23 1999 Well, we have finally recovered from the CD release after party ; ) and have scheduled a few shows: 1. Soda Ash will open for the Blackwater CD Release show Mar 11 at Shattered. Blackwater is a great band who used to be in Columbia, but relocated to Lawrence several years ago. They play darkly beautiful rock. 2. Soda Ash opens for Tory Z. Starbuck Apr 2 at DownUnder, and 3. Soda Ash opens for SCSI and My Scarlet Life, Apr 10 at DownUnder Bar. Date of Announcement: Feb 16 1999 Soda Ash "Sci-Fi Lullaby" is now officially in format at KCOU. It will also be the feature album Feb 17 at 10:00 pm. This means it'll be played in it's entirety. The video is being made by Chip Gubera, formerly of The Domestics, and is an homage to David Lynch.
